Microsoft About To Add Non-Open Ai Into 365 Copilot Products
Miscrosoft is working hard to upgrade their AI product Microsoft 365 Copilot with the internal and third-party Ai models. According to reuters their familiar source told them that in order to reduce costs, miscrosoft will diversify from current technology from openAi.
Miscrosoft wants to lessen its dependence on AI startup hence it’s latest effort is a major backer of OpenAI. After miscrosoft announced in march 2023 that copilot is a major selling point because it was using OpenAI GPT – 4 Model.
From the previous years microsoft has been the early accessers to this Open AI models.

According to familiar source to reuter, they said miscrosoft is wanting to stop 365 copilot dependant on OpenAI, due to cost and speed for enterprise personnel users who are always requesting for anonymity to communicate their private matters.
A spokesperson from Microsoft made it known that OpenAI will continue to be the company’s partner in terms of frontier models which is the most advanced artificial Intelligence models. The two companies (Microsoft and OpenAI) agreed the software can be customized.
Microsoft said in a statement, I quote Accordingly “We incorporate various models from OpenAI and Microsoft depending on the product and experience,” . OpenAI has refuse to comment.
The familiar source also added that Miscrosoft is working to customize other open_weight artificial intelligence models that can help 365 copilot be faster and efficient than previously. It smaller models like that of latest Phi-4 will be trained.
Their main aim i to make Ai cheap for microsoft to run 365 copilot and also help users save alot of money.
CEO Satya Nadella is one of Microsoft frontier are following up the effort closely.
This process has reflect on other miscrosoft business units and has eventually changed the way they use OpenAI. After Microsoft purchased Github in 2018, it added some models from google and anthropic in october to be the replacement of OpenAI’s GPT-4.o. OpenAI models has powered in-house models like the consumer chatbot copilot.
365 copilot on Miscrosoft is an AI assistant or support bulit in the suite of enterprise software such as Word and PowerPoint, is trying to prove its ROI (Return on Investment) to the enterprise. No data of sales has been shared by microsoft of the number of licenses sold but there has been bother about the pricing and utility.
A Research Firm Gartner said a survey of 152 IT companies have shown vast majority of them hadn’t progressed with their copilot initatives past the polit stage.
An analyst at BNP paribas Exane also said they have seen the speed in adoption, and they expected 365 copilot to be sold to more than 10 million paid users this year. In the November blog post, microsft also said 70% of the fortune 500 companies are using 365 copilot
